Overview
Karma Driven is a talent discovery platform built by Varsity VC. What started as an internal tool to help portfolio companies hire has grown into a trusted weekly newsletter reaching thousands of tech professionals exploring their next move. We transformed Karma Driven from a simple newsletter into a fully-fledged talent platform by delivering end-to-end branding, positioning, website UX/UI, and newsletter design. By crafting an identity that feels approachable, trustworthy, and distinctly non-corporate, we created an experience that resonates with curious professionals who want to stay ahead of the market—without signaling they're actively looking. The result is a platform that empowers talent to discover hidden opportunities before they go public, while helping startups, scale-ups, and VC-backed companies reach a highly engaged pipeline of top-tier candidates.
Brand
Our work with Karma Driven began by challenging the status quo of recruitment branding: sterile job boards, cold corporate tones, and transactional experiences. We wanted to build something that felt like a friend sharing insider tips—not another impersonal talent marketplace. The name "Karma Driven" itself embodies the philosophy: genuine connections and paying it forward create the best opportunities.

To bring this ethos to life, we developed a vibrant, playful brand identity featuring custom illustrations and a signature peace-sign hand motif that became the visual heartbeat of the brand. The warm colour palette and approachable typography break from typical VC corporate look, signalling to tech talent that this is a space built for them—not recruiters. Every design choice reinforces the core promise: browse privately, discover opportunities before the crowd, and make your next move on your terms.

From strategy to final execution, we designed Karma Driven's website to feel like the antithesis of a traditional job board. We mapped distinct user journeys for talent seeking opportunities and companies looking to reach top candidates, crafting confident yet conversational copy throughout. Custom animations bring the brand's playful energy to life—icons bounce, cards cascade, and illustrations react to interaction, creating an experience that's both engaging and effortlessly intuitive.

The talent-facing pages emphasise discretion and ease: subscribe with just an email, browse passively without alerting anyone, and access curated opportunities from a trusted insider. For companies, we built a clear pathway to feature roles and reach over 2,000 engaged professionals. A dedicated job listing section showcases real opportunities with filters by stage and sector, while the sponsorship module opens revenue opportunities for the platform. The result is a website that positions Karma Driven as the go-to destination for tech talent who believe their next great opportunity shouldn't require them to shout about it.

We completely reimagined the user journey to cater to two different career stages. We designed Karma Driven’s journey as a playground for the curious—talent who are passively exploring their next best opportunity.

Conversely, Talent Letter was built for those ready to take the leap immediately. The design challenge was balance: ensuring both platforms retained their unique identities while echoing each other perfectly through shared visual cues and interaction patterns.
